How to read the RSI map

01

What RSI measures

The Relative Strength Index compares recent price moves on a 0–100 scale. We use Wilder’s 14-period method on closed front-month futures candles (Yahoo Finance: GC=F, CL=F …).

02

Why 30 and 70 matter

Below 30 signals unusually weak momentum; above 70 signals unusually strong momentum. Treat both as context, not an instruction to buy or sell.

03

Compare timeframes

Futures roll to the next contract every month or quarter, which can create a small jump in price. Energy reacts sharply to inventory data, so compare several timeframes.
